IS THERAPY RIGHT FOR ME?
When you're ready, you're ready. Therapy is one of those things that the more you put into it, the more you will get out. If you're asking the question, you're likely ready to take the leap. I can help you figure out if therapy will be helpful for you at this time. Try a 15 minute consultation call to see if you're in a place to start your healing journey.
IS YOUR SERVICE COVERED BY INSURANCE? DO YOU DIRECT BILL?
Every insurance plan is different so please check with your insurance company. They will ask what my credentials are. I have a Master's in Counselling Psychology and I'm a Registered Social Worker.
I don't direct bill. I will provide a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company.
HOW DO I FIND THE BEST THERAPIST FOR ME?
The relationship between a client and therapist is vital for therapy to be effective. You have to feel comfortable with your therapist and be able to trust their ability. You have to just click.
You can contact me for a 15 minute consultation call. This will give you a very good feel for who I am and how I work. Then you can try a session. If you don't click with me, you can always switch to a different therapist.
WILL I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT MY PAST, TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES OR UNCOMFORTABLE TOPICS?
You will never have to talk about anything you don't want to talk about. We will talk about your goals for therapy and I will adjust my approach accordingly. I will follow your lead and never push you to go where you're not ready or comfortable going. That being said, sometimes the therapy process gets uncomfortable because you are healing and growing. I will always help you through that discomfort.
HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE SPIRITUALITY INTO YOUR SESSIONS?
For those who are interested, we can discuss your spiritual journey including awakening, tapping into the wisdom of your Higher Self, how to use your intuition more effectively and more. I will pull oracle or tarot cards at the end of a therapy session to give you any final messages, words of encouragement or guidance. I believe that the messages you get from your own intuition are the most important and are, indeed, loving messages from Spirit, Source, the Universe, God, the Creator or whatever label you prefer.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE A THERAPIST?
This really depends on your goals and the issues you want to address. We will decide together how often to meet.
Once per week is usually a starting point. Then we would decide together to meet every other week, then every 3 weeks, then check in in a month. You may find that you get what you need in two or three sessions.
Some people find value in a once per month session. It's really what you find most helpful.
There is no limit on the number of sessions you can access. Sessions are typically 50-60 minutes in length.
WILL THERAPY HELP MY RELATIONSHIPS?
When you work on your own healing, it allows you to be able to be present in your relationships. You will be able to decide what is healthy for you and what isn't. So, the answer is yes.
WHAT THERAPY APPROACHES DO YOU USE?
I use a variety of approaches depending on your style, the issue and what your goals are. I generally use a more conversational style that is client centered and strength based. Some of the technical approaches I draw from are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma Informed Strategies, and many others.
I consider myself a Holistic Therapist, which means I take your whole being into consideration including body, mind and spirit.
IS ONLINE THERAPY EFFECTIVE?
Yes. I do both in person and online/telephone sessions and find both very effective. I prefer sessions over the phone if you can't meet in person and find them extremely effective.
I have an office in Kensington in Calgary for in person sessions.
